Responsible for overseeing customs duties, excise taxes, and border control to regulate trade and prevent smuggling.
Pakistan Customs Service (PCS) is tasked to perform the following functions :
It serves as the guardian of Pakistan’s borders against the movement of contraband goods and encourage bona-fide trade. It provided a major source of revenue to the Government of Pakistan in the form of taxes levied. It also helps to protect the domestic industry and stimulates trade.
The core function of PCS is to guard the nation’s borders against smuggling, illegitimate trade and money laundering. Other responsibilities include safeguarding the country’s trade policies, intellectual property rights and transit trade. Its role has been greatly enhanced as a law enforcement agency with a special focus on border control.
Pakistan Customs is the only law enforcement agency, that also has jurisdiction in the sea and operates in 200 nautical miles (370.4 km; 230.2 mi) called Pakistan Customs Waters to prevent smuggling activities independently and also carries out joint operations with Pakistan Coast Guard and Pakistan Maritime.
The STP of Pakistan Custom Service probationers is held at The Directorate General of Training & Research (Customs), Karachi. Its an eight month training program and following courses are taught in it :
The course aims to equip the Assistant Collectors (Probationers) of Pakistan Customs Service with necessary knowledge of law and procedures of Customs, Sales Tax, Federal Excise, and other Allied Acts. It has been designed in consultation with Civil Services Academy and Federal Public Service Commission.
