Manages tax collection and enforcement of indirect taxes, including sales tax, excise duty, and customs duty.
Inland Revenue Service is tasked to collect Domestic Taxes (comprising Income Tax, Sales Tax and Federal Excise Duty). It constitutes about 90% of the Revenue collected by FBR.
After completion of the Common Training Program (CTP) at Civil Services Academy, Lahore the Probationary Officers of the Inland Revenue Service undergo a Specialized Training Program (STP) that covers diverse subjects including all domestic Federal Taxes namely Income Tax, Sales Tax, Federal Excise Duty, Tax Audits, Principles of Accountancy, Applied Accountancy, Other Laws, IT & Office Procedure.
The objective of the training at the Directorate is to impart specialized training on specific lines to transform a Probationary Officer into a tax professional who has adequate knowledge of the principles and techniques of taxation, modern finance, accounting and auditing practice in the public sector. It is also paramount to inculcate the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life situations.
In addition to the above, the module also aims to impart knowledge, skills, and a sense of professionalism to groom the Officers in developing a confident & professional outlook, in order to deliver their best.
Training in the Directorate General largely conforms to a blend of conventional and non-conventional techniques which include classroom lectures, role play/presentations, research syndicates, assignments, extension lectures, group discussions, case studies, hand-outs, field visits, spot tests, Individual & group presentations, country study tours, industrial tours, field attachment, work ethics, workshops, simulation exercises, synopsis writing and book reviews.
