Around six years after the migration to Madinah, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had a dream. In this dream, he was performing Tawaf around the Holy Kaaba in Mecca. Inspired by this vision, the Prophet (PBUH) called his companions and shared the dream with them. Encouraged by the companions, he decided to embark on an Umrah pilgrimage.
A caravan of 1,400 pilgrims and 70 sacrificial camels set out toward Mecca. However, upon hearing about this congregation, the leaders of the Quraish (the Meccan tribe) became alarmed. Despite having no right to stop unarmed Muslims, the Quraish prevented them from entering Mecca. They even sent an army of 200 fighters led by Khalid bin Walid to block the Muslim caravan’s entry.
In response, the Prophet (PBUH) changed his route and settled in a lesser-known area on the western edge of the Haram territory, which he named “Hudaibiyyah.” He then dispatched Uthman bin Affaq (RA) to inform the Quraish that their purpose was to perform Umrah, not to engage in conflict. Unfortunately, the Quraish detained Uthman, and rumors spread that he had been killed.
Upon hearing this, the Prophet (PBUH) gathered the Muslims and prepared for war. The Makkans realized that various tribes were aligning with Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), ready to fight. In response, they quickly sent Sohbail bin Amr Al-Thaqafi as a representative to negotiate peace terms. This negotiation resulted in the “Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.”
The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah was signed in the sixth year of Prophethood and holds immense significance in Islam. It resolved the ongoing conflict between the cities of Mecca and Madinah, ensuring ten years of peace and allowing Muslims to perform Umrah. It also facilitated the spread of Islam within Saudi Arabia and beyond the Arabian Peninsula.
Interestingly, upon returning from Hudaibiyyah, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received a revelation from Allah SWT. This revelation stated that Allah had placed a seal of honor on the treaty and named it “Fatah Al-Mubeen,” which translates to “manifest victory.”
In summary, the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, also known as Fatah-e-Mubeen, exemplifies the importance of patience, honor, and leadership in resolving conflicts and spreading the message of Islam. 🕋🌙🕊️
